Day 19: Colorado-Air Force Academy and Olympic Training Center
HELLO LOVELIES IT’S THE HAPPY GROUP ONE LAST TIME!!
Starting off our daily adventure in the morning to V yelling
good morning lovelies and Grant blasting What Does the Fox Say at 5:30 a.m. prepares
us for what we have all been waiting for: the dance competition. After being
woken up before 7 for the 19th day in a row, we’re all basically
morning people. Instead of jamming out on the bus and vans, we opted to take a
quick nap to start off our day. Once we had our first bathroom stop of the day in
Wyoming, we were able to experience the Cinnabon with the highest sales in the
United States in a Flying J gas station- so of course we had to buy one! For
breakfast the cooks served nutritious gourmet yogurt and granola that tasted
delicious.
Once everybody gets a nap and food
on their stomach the day officially starts, the fun music flowing from the
front of the bus to the back with Harrison and Owen dancing to One Direction
and pop throwbacks. Today we bonded over a long riding day but we made it fun
with the music and eventful story telling. Many even shared first kiss stories
and similarly, their pooping mishap stories. Knox shared with us his story of
how his first kiss ended in a nosebleed and how Carter got friend zoned when he
leaned in for a peck. Grant also shared some pointers and excitement when he
explained how he proposed to his wonderful wife, Kitch. Everyone had a
sentimental moment after hearing about his creative idea to set up a scavenger
hunt for his wife to find her ring inside the house he had just bought.
When we arrived at the United
States Air Force Academy, we quickly learned how prestigious and demanding it
is to become a cadet at the Academy. We watched an educational video and were
informed on what it takes to accomplish basic training and complete their
freshmen year. We were shown how you have to lose everything to gain everything
and how they sacrifice many common luxuries in their daily lives. We were led
to the beautiful Cadet Chapel that is unique in it’s architecture and is one of
the most popular places to visit at the Air Force Academy. One of our many TWB traditions is to kiss a
cadet on the cheek before leaving the academy, most were unsuccessful but a few
lucky people found a particular cadet from Charlotte. He let a few of our ladies
give him a little peck, but when Ethan went in he immediately pushed him away
which gave us all a good chuckle.
Driving to the Olympic Training
Center was a short ride, but we filled the time with listening to patriotic
music. Because as we all know, on TWB, we sure are ‘proud to be an American’.
Once we got there, a 9-minute video inspired us all to want to be Olympians
ourselves. Watching them all be proud and see their trials they had to face to
get the gold was inspiring. We were then split into tour groups and were taken
around the training center. It was amazing getting to see a few Olympic
gymnasts swing around on the bars and land perfectly. If only Harrison could do
that on the bus, that would be a good laugh. Towards the end of the tour our
tour guides lead us into the dance battle of a lifetime. The Happys, Sneezys,
and Bashfuls doing the wobble and the Grumpys, Sleepys, and Dopeys aggressively
doing the Macarena. It is still untold who won, the Happys believe it was our
group but we could be a little biased. Many shopped in the gift shop, buying
t-shirts with various sports on the front and the Olympic rings wherever you
could find them. The Olympic Training Center was inspiring and we loved every
second of it.
The ride to Colorado College was
short as well, but on Carolina Girl Hunter recalled the many times he has
choked on blocks of cheese. Some odd stories to make us laugh in the short time
on the van. Once we arrived at the college, a Dominos car pulled in around the
same time. It was a pleasant surprise to everyone, yummy pizza and sodas
galore. We also were given the option to eat some leftover chips and snacks
from the extra food bin. To say we were eating like Kings is an understatement.
We then separated into our separate groups to practice for the highly
anticipated dance battle. Happys got as far away as possible so no one could
copy our good moves. But then the time was upon us, the time to share our moves
with the rest of the trip.
In the auxillary gym of Colorado
College our groups sat together, giddy about the competition that was about to
start. Madyson and Ty started us off with an awesome competition dance they had
performed in their dance season this year. Then the competition really started,
the Bashfuls stepping up first. Everyone cheered and clapped for one another.
Bashfuls really brought the competiton, which hyped up the other groups even
more. We were surprised by some people’s moves, especially Jacob who danced
harder than we have ever seen. And of course Ethan, Harrison, and Owen’s
twerking skills. But in the end the winning group was the.. drumroll please…
DOPEYS! V likes to call us Children of the Dance and says we will be on tour if
anyone wishes to come see our amazing dances.
After the competition everyone was
extremely happy and ready to shower. V talked to us about the next day and then
set us free to lay out our sleeping gear and run to get in line for the
bathroom. All in all though we all really enjoyed our night bedding down in
Colorado College. Even with the giggles around the gym and bats fluttering
about. Yep, we said bats. Our counselors actually found a bat and Ian grabbed it with a plastic bag and took it outside! It's like we're in a zoo!
Signing off for one last time!
