Day 5- Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

Day 5: Painted Desert

What’s up! It’s the Dopey’s back at it again with a dope blog (see what we did there).  We woke up bright and early around 5 a.m. at the New Mexico Military Institute. We drove and drove… and drove until we reached the Painted Desert in Arizona. While we were driving we got to put our numbers into the luxurious flip phones so that we could call you beautiful people. Thanks to our Gen Z mindset some of us didn’t know how to work a flip phone… sorry mom and dad. Along the way, Lindsey opened her very own beauty salon and plucked the guys eyebrows and Dustin’s back hairs… yikes. We spent some time looking at the beautiful colors of the Painted Desert and taking pictures with our friends. Brett and Marshall had an awesome chest bump picture. We listened to the research that our fellow campers prepared for us and also had to use port-a-potties. We hit the road again, Grand Canyon bound!!!

On our way to the big hole in the ground, we enjoyed pizza bagels and everyone kind of got in their feels from missing home just a little. After some naps, McDonalds, a trip to Safeway (not Wal Mart for once!), and singing, we arrived at the big ole’ Grand Canyon. Everyone had to use the restrooms but forgot about it in midst of seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. We got to see the sunset and some even teared up a little (AKA Hunter). We all reflected on how small we are in comparison to the world and felt our friendships grow stronger. We bedded down at a campsite right next to some interesting French people. (They’re not very nice...or clean). We’re all getting in our hammocks and sleeping bags early to prepare for our 4:30 AM hike. It was the first night we had a good view of all the bright stars. Let’s hope we don’t get eaten by tarantulas or run into some elk.

Au revoir!

Love, the Dopeys
