Day 7- Las Vegas

Day 7: VEGAS!

Hey y’all, it’s the Dopeys back at it again for our last blog! Today we had the opportunity to sleep in, but the ravens at our campsite had other plans. Most of us were up by 6:00 a.m. We got to hear the early morning mating call of the elk. We also got to wake up our French neighbors with a meeting after a breakfast of delicious pancakes and sausage. Some of us took our last showers for a couple days and got ready for Las Vegas!

We could hardly recognize each other in normal clothes with our hair brushes and makeup on! We piled on to the bus and vans in our groups and prepared our Vegas chants, our new challenge from The V. After our group finished our chant (which is obviously the best one) we talked, made friendship bracelets, wrote post cards and tried to take naps. The Nevada heat was canceling out our air on the bus so everyone was fanning themselves with lunch trays! We stopped on the way at a flying J’s and had a peanut butter and jelly assembly line lunch. We drove past the Hoover Dam and saw its massive reservoir. Before long we arrived in SIN CITY!

Michael did a great job getting us in the bus through the city to our parking spot, which none of us could have done. We all got out of the bus and got maps from The V. We walked to Caesar’s Palace and took a group picture at the Fountain of the Gods. After the picture we branched off into our groups of 6 or more. Most stayed around Caesar’s Palace (mostly because we got lost in all the stores).  We discovered that many of us have expensive taste as we shopped around in stores like Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Some of us even bought new Ray Bans! We found an Apple store and made a few facetime calls home to our family and friends. Once we finally figured out how to get out of the casino we all went to dinner at restaurants like Margaritaville and Planet Hollywood. Some of the guys earned everlasting respect from the other boys by getting their pictures taken with “very attractive flamingo ladies” but the girls on the trip just smiled at the mediocre looking shirtless cowboys.

We continued to walk the strip and some participants even made it down to New York, New York where everyone rode on the roller coaster, just a little prep for the adventures of Disney Land in a couple of days! Nobody ended up going on the huge Ferris wheel because it was wayyy too expensive. Many gathered and watched the fountain and lights show and the flamingo ladies at the Bellagio and admired the large and detailed building. During their exploration a few of the kids discovered a zip line attraction but sadly the girls rompers prevented them from going on that adventure. Instead, we just found dessert places and enjoyed a sweet to help break up all of the walking and dehydration. Don’t worry parents; we bought lots of water. Many people helped with the littering problem in Vegas by picking up the little cards that were all over the ground. These were also known as “free souvenirs” but we quickly threw them in the trash as Grant specifically said not to pick them up and carry them back to the bus.

Vegas was so hot that the soles of Caroline's shoes melted
We all had a great time and many memories were made with our friends. Now we're on to an overnight drive to Santa Monica! The next blog post will be from a new group and we will be in California!!! J
