Day 13: Yosemite
Hey y'all, it’s the
Sneezy group aka Rachel Lowry, Hunter Boik, Zoe Givens, McKinsey Rakestraw,
Walker Christian, Riley Mcgee, Ashley Reep, Caroline Infinger, Madyson Truitt,
Tyler Zill, Owen Joyce, Grace Ann Wooten, and Kendall Martin.
This morning we woke up at Lakeside Presbyterian Church at
5:16 a.m. We left San Francisco and
headed to Yosemite National Park. We first stopped at Walmart to get the rest
of the meals and ended up hanging out in the parking lot for a little bit while the bus fueled up. A group of
people had a dance and sing along while we were waiting. After the bus finally
arrived we had bagels again but we had NEW FLAVORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most
everyone took a nap until we arrived at the CVS for a break. The stop was
supposed to be fifteen minutes but ended up being around thirty because the
girl’s bathroom only had ONE stall for like sixty of us. After that we loaded
back up on the bus and headed to see the redwood trees in Yosemite National
Park while enjoying a gourmet lunch consisting of pizza wraps with a side of
chips and cookies.
Once we arrived at Yosemite, we waited at the bus stop for
the shuttle busses to take us to the see the giant sequoias. We had to hike
about one and a half miles all together to see a GIANT sequoia called the
“Grizzly Giant." Once we got to the top, Hunter presented us with his research
on sequoia trees. After his presentation we took pictures and hiked back down
to the bus stop. We took a shuttle back down to the gift shop and crammed about
40 people into a very tiny gift shop.

After loading back up on the bus and vans we drove for a
little while until we spotted a bear cub. There was a crowd of people in the
road and one guy decided to walk out in front of our moving bus. Michael called
him “an old fart” after he barely missed him. Then we drove for another hour
before the naps on the bus became boring and story time came into play. Knox
gave us his best impressions of Mickey Mouse, Elmo, Patrick and Harrison. Ian
(not the counselor) was our newest TWB tour guide and showed off his best
accents inspired by Scotland, Australia, Germany, and New York. Senior prank
stories were shared, that helped pass the time and kept everyone laughing.
It's blurry but there is the bear cub! |
Soon after group story time we all climbed out of the bus
and took a group picture in front of an amazing view. Seeing the mountains and
lake right before sunset was definitely one of the most picture perfect moments
of the day. Some of us wanted to hop in the lake, but we had to run back on the
bus and continue on our way to our campground.
About thirty minutes later we FINALLY arrived and it was
snowing! Just kidding it was just cotton wood flowers, but it looked a lot like
snow. Our cooks (the Dopeys) decided that it would be a good time for us to
have grilled cheese sandwiches with chicken noodle soup. It
was amazing to have hot food though even though we weren’t warned about exactly
how hot the soup really was. We also made friends with the group camping in the site beside ours. They were from Belgium and were kind enough to give us all of their leftover food!! Some of us were fortunate enough to get some Belgian chicken and rice in addition to our soup and grilled cheeses. Tonight we are staying at a campground on Mono
Lake. V says we won’t catch any diseases from it but we aren’t taking any
chances. It is beautiful though!
