Day 4- Carlsbad Caverns

Day 4: Carlsbad Caverns

Yo yo yo this is the Dopeys coming to you live from Roswell, New Mexico. We are Paulina, Carson, Marshall, Hailey, Grace, Anna, Wyatt, Knox, Maddy, Sunshine, Kambrie, Lindsey, and Jack. Our morning started off bright and early with a wakeup call from Miss V at 5 a.m.! We left Schreiner University in the big state of Texas and started our drive to the Carlsbad Caverns. We had a traveling breakfast with the option of blueberry or strawberry muffins with oranges. Lindsey ate her first orange ever! We made multiple stops at our trusty Flying J to grab some snacks and let the vans fuel up. Most of our morning consisted of sleeping on the bus and vans.

After many hours of traveling we made it to the Caverns, which we learned is one of the 6 natural wonders of the world. As soon as we walked in we were stunned by the beauty but also got a big whiff of bat doo doo. We walked almost 800 feet deep down into the ground. We took the elevator back up to the top and shopped at the gift shop. We left with lighter wallets and even bigger kankles than yesterday (all this heat and sitting down is getting to us)! We rode the bus towards Roswell, New Mexico. Our ride included singing along to Disney karaoke, a couple games of Uno and a dad joke competition. This was followed by a classic trip to Walmart where some of us indulged in McDonalds and some bought a $10 pair of underwear.

We headed to the New Mexico Military Institute where we got to camp outside for the first time. Before we set up camp we had Liutenant Colonel Art Houghtby give us a presentation on NMMI and some of our friends presented their research. The weather has been amazing so far! We played some soccer, spike ball, did some star tipping, and even went on runs around the soccer field to prepare for our Grand Canton hike. Then we all ate a nice healthy dinner of Weenies n’ cheese with a side of green beans and got brownie bites for dessert! After a long day it is time for us to call it a night. We’ll be back tomorrow after the Painted Dessert and our first time at the GRAND CANYON!!!

Peace out from the Dopeys!
